We are liking our nice big room!

(Sorry for posting late... busy night)

We were transferred from the PICU to the Oncology Floor this morning.  This was a little sooner than I thought, but PICU said his kidneys looked great and they weren't worried about him in the short term.

We always appreciate this move, as it usually means that we are not as sick as we once were.  It is also a sign that we are no longer once of the sickest kids in the hospital, and they need the room for someone who is struggling more than we are.   So, a move OUT of the PICU is a cause for celebration.

On a logistical side, the floor rooms give a little more privacy and comfort, which makes Patrick happier.  Around 4pm, he texted me and asked me to call.  I thought that something was wrong.  He wanted to know what kind of monitor he should get.  (Since he is working from the hospital, just having a monitor will help his productivity... he already has a keyboard).  I can usually tell how stressed things are by what Patrick talks about... if it's all about Ryan (lab numbers, behavior, etc), he's a little worried.  Him talking about monitors is a good sign!

If I understand the plan correctly, the first phase of chemotherapy will take about 29 days.  There is a set schedule of what meds we will get when over this period of time.  So, I've been asking Patrick when we will start 'Day 1'...They want him to be as strong as possible before we start, so that explains the delay, waiting for him kidneys and his blood numbers to get back to normal.  Patrick said we should start 'Day 1' sometime between Friday and Monday...  So, that's exciting, because we can get 'started'... and a little scary because we will get 'started'...

We are starting to look for short term furnished apartments in Seattle, close to the hospital.  They are discussing the possibility of allowing us to leave the hospital in a few weeks, but we would have to stay close by.  If we can find something within walking distance, we don't have to rent a car, which would be a plus.  I know the Ronald McDonald house is available, but I think Patrick and Ryan would appreciate something a little more private (especially with the germ factor... he will have NO immunity to anything, and we can control things better in our own place)

As for us back here at home, I got to take Kathryn to see Allen's last performance in '1776' last night, which was awesome.  Grandma and Grandpa also made it for the performance, so we got to share it together.  Now, we get to prepare for Prom tomorrow night...  Never a dull moment in our house!!

Thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts!

  1. This pic makes me smile! The way the hair is parted, the wrinkling of the brows, rosy cheeks, and of course, standard Ryan pose. So adorable.

    XOXO, Aunt Jen
