Day 18 (or so they tell me) - sleeping...

Jeez, mom... turn out the lights! |
Ryan is still throwing a fever once or twice a day (today was 38.5 C or about 102), so another set of cultures, and still keeping the antibiotics going. He is really driving Infectious Disease crazy with his negative cultures.
The plan at this point is just waiting. I think Ryan figured that out, since he pretty much spent the entire day sleeping. We got up around 5pm and got a shower and clean clothes, but he was back asleep by 6:30. (I'm personally terrified that he's going to keep me awake all night...) But, the doctors think that maybe this is his way of healing. He hasn't needed much in the way of pain medication, and his oxygen saturation has been much better today (he was running in the high 80's overnight, requiring a nasal cannula to give him a little extra oxygen...Today, he hasn't needed it).
The ostomy looks good, and Seattle's surgery called UCLA's surgery to confirm the plan. I'm so glad the team there hasn't forgotten us... :) Everyone seems content to let his ostomy hang out (no pun intended) during his chemo treatments, until it becomes a problem. Since the bag seems to be doing better than it did 11 years ago, I'm okay with that (for now). We'll see how it goes.
I'm staying at the hospital at night this week, so I'm a little tired. But, I am making a point of going over to the apartment for a shower and a change of clothes and a break every day for lunch... Patrick has been here for rounds, but otherwise, working hard at the apartment with no distractions. We've fallen into a routine, but it seems to be working...
Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts...
---------------------
ANC: 54 (up from 18, but still really bad)
WBC: 0.3
Hematocrit: 20.1 (he got RBC blood today)
Platelets: 44 (up from 20, so that's good)
The numbers we are looking for are: ANC above 750, Platelets above 75
Well Ryan is sleeping so Mom should catch a nap also, you are no good to him if you are too tired to function, Sweetie. That is fantastic that the hospital there confers with UCLA's hospital, and how could they forget you, probably don't get too many patients like Ryan :) my prayers and best wishes are still with ALL of you. If there is anything I can do on this end, let me know. LUV U all
