Day 20 - Hanging in there...

Jeez, mom... why do you keep taking my picture??
We had a good day.  The doctors would like Ryan to try to start eating food again (he's been on clear liquids for the last two weeks), so we tried a few grapes and a bite of French fry.  Not too exciting, but it was something more than ice tea.  He did fine, and hopefully, we can move on to something a little more solid tomorrow.

ANC was a little higher today, and we didn't need any blood products.  In addition, he's off the monitors while he's awake.  These are all good things and show that we are going (albeit slowly) in the right direction.

Ryan is a little annoyed by the hole in his belly and is having a hard time understanding why they won't just fix it.  (The surgeons won't go in and do surgery while his counts are low, because he won't have the ability to heal after the surgery)  I'm trying to help him understand, but it's hard.

I expect tomorrow to be another boring day, which is just fine with me...

Thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts!

  1. yup, boring is good!! I can just see Ryan thinking they should fix the hole in his tummy--when he goes to the hospital he gets fixed :) we did remember Ryan and the entire Simpson families in our prayers tonight at mass, we all visited about how we missed Ryan's singing, final salutation, and just his attitude. Looking forward to that again. LUV U all
