Day 35 - Discharge!! Finally! :)

Our morning was busy, with a liver ultrasound (which took about an hour), to make sure no nasty clots had formed where they shouldn't be. He did fine. They told us at morning rounds that we would be heading home, so I started packing... Oh boy, did it take a while... Legos alone filled 2-3 bags. :) In the end, we used a wagon and still had to carry 4-5 bags. Lots of stuff accumulates over time.
He is very, very weak (it seems as though he has gotten weaker this week, with no chemo). But he is feeling better. So it came as no surprise when he decided he wanted to jump out of bed this morning and go kung fu fighting. Of course, it was a surprise to him when he landed face down on the floor. He's fine, just a bruised knee and elbow, and perhaps a little more prudence when he decides to go kung fu fighting again.

I only get one more full day here. My flight leaves on Sunday evening. It's a little heartbreaking to realize that I'm leaving. But I need to be home for a while to spend time with my other kids. Patrick has things well in hand, and Grandma and Grandpa are heading out to see him.
Next week will be brutal, with clinic visits every day (Monday - Saturday), but it's worth it to have him sleep at home with us. And we will be pushing him every day to get stronger. It's amazing how much muscle tone he has lost. He can't step up a step, and he can only walk for a few feet without getting tired. But now, we have the freedom to push him.
We start the next phase on Monday, so I will restart at Day 1. This phase is called Consolidation, and lasts 57 days, or roughly 2 months. That will hopefully have us finish up in mid August.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and good thoughts... :)

(Okay, so I totally forgot to get his labs before we left... and I won't be getting daily labs, which is totally awesome. I will still post when I know them.)

HORRAY HORRAY HORRAY out of the hospital and to the "temporary" Simpson home :) What a great feeling for all of you!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how much muscle tone he has lost laying around for over a month, just do it for a few days and find out. well kung fu fighting will have to come on a little at a time--I was going to say gracefully? (thought that fit the fall)
wow have to hire a moving van to get Ryan back to Raynesford after he collects a few more months of Legos and other items. oh well worth it to keep him occupied and happy.
We will be glad to see your smiling face back in Raynesford, Cheryl, but know it will be difficult to leave there. it is great that Patrick can work from almost anywhere. we do what we have to do for our family.
LUV U all
Thanks, Lois! It will be nice to be home, but tough to leave... :(
