Day 4 - All is going fine... (still inpatient)

All is going fine.  Ryan had another MRI today, and the doctors are really pleased.  We've all decided that he was simply dehydrated and very tired.  We had been trying so hard to get his fluids balanced and get the swelling (edema) better, that we allowed him to get dehydrated, and didn't really notice.  The normal signs of dehydration are thirst and fatigue, etc.  He wasn't thirsty, and we attributed all his other symptoms to reactions to the medications.  Fortunately, his labs also gave us more info, and the diagnosis of dehydration, which is totally treatable.

We kept him overnight and he got his Friday chemo treatment inpatient.  We decided to keep him overnight tonight as well, so he can get tomorrow's chemo treatment, and then they will send us home.  He can just stay home from Saturday through Monday, which I'm sure will help him recover faster.

Everyone is still really pleased with his reaction to the chemo drugs, and how well his body is responding.  With the exception of the dehydration (which we kinda caused), he really hasn't had much in the way of side effects.  Grandma and Grandpa were kind enough to stay through today, which really helped Patrick get stuff resolved today.  Another week of chemo next week and then he gets a little time off.

Thank you all for your continued prayers and good thoughts...

  1. So glad it was an easy fix!! The fatigue goes with the chemo, as I have been told. I feel so sorry for him, and all of you that love him so much, as it pains your heart to see him not charging around, that too will happen :) Now Ann will really have to hurry home to get to her big class reunion!! but knew they would want to stay and make sure all was ok.
Cheryl, CU in church tonight. we have dedicated our blood drawing on the 27th to Ryan again.
    LUV U all
