Day 92 - Admitted for nausea

We had clinic today, and Ryan was very upset when he realized we were going to clinic, rather than the ER.  Patrick explained that we would ask the doctors to be admitted, but he was still worried that he wouldn't get to stay in the hospital.

Obviously, the doctors were willing to admit us, especially when Ryan asked so nicely.  So, after talking with the nutritionist (his electrolytes were actually pretty good for a kid whose been throwing up for the last 72 hours) and the oncologist, we headed upstairs where they had his room prepared... just like one of those fancy hotels, right?

Patrick headed back to the apartment and got his Surface (tablet computer) and his Xbox and his blankets, and Ryan was so happy.  We will keep him in for about 2-3 days, or until he starts to feel better.  They agreed that it might just be a virus, so we're checking for that.  Otherwise, he gets his IV nausea meds, a Scopolamine patch (usually for motion sickness, but also helps with nausea) and extra IV fluids.  They can also keep an eye on his electrolytes better, to make sure that nothing gets too out of whack.

Unfortunately, while Patrick was getting the Xbox, Ryan threw up so hard that the hole in his belly burst open.  Not all that shocking, as it was just healing, but annoying just the same.  So, we put the ostomy bag back on his belly, and hope that it closes back up soon.  Poor thing...

The good news is that his ANC is still about 1400 and while his sodium was a little low, the rest of his electrolytes were still pretty normal.  He felt so much better that he told Patrick to head home and get some work done.  It's been pretty rough on Patrick (trying to give Ryan meds every 2 hours is really hard), and I think the break might actually do him some good as well.

The doctors are not overly concerned, and they think his body is doing really well.  But I'm glad they agreed that keeping him comfortable with the IV meds is the right way to go.  Hopefully, whatever this is that is causing his nausea will go away in a day or two, and he can get back to feeling better!

Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts!
