Day 237 - Another issue

Things are never easy, are they?

Ryan was starting to feel better.  The influenza seems to be getting better, the infection is resolved and now we were just dealing with the clot issue.  And then, Patrick noticed that his belly was looking a little strange.

For those who have not been following along since April, in mid-June, we had a 'fistula'... which is a fancy word for 'intestines bursting through the abdomen'... Due to all of Ryan's previous surgeries, he had weakness in his abdomen wall, and when the intestines were under stress, they decided to push through that weakness, and rupture to the outside, causing an ostomy.  Sounds really weird, I know (if you're interested in how that went, you read the blog back from June 18th)

Well, it looks like he might be doing that again.  Patrick said that his belly looks really thin, like the intestines want to come back out.  We've warned the nurses, and asked them to keep a special close eye on his belly.  If we are lucky, it's just a false alarm.

On a good note, the nurses and Patrick all say that the swelling in his face is going down.  It's hard for me to see it in pictures, so I'll have to believe them.  Ryan was feeling good enough to ask for movies (Thundercats!... Ho!), and we're not really into denying him anything at this point.  I'm just glad he didn't ask for a pony or a new red sports car!

Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts!!
