Day 238 - Swelling is down, a little...
It seems that the new medication that we have Ryan on is doing some good. Patrick said that the swelling in his face and neck is significantly better (although he does still have a ways to go before he's back to normal) The doctors are very pleased that his numbers seem to be going back to normal, and the oncologists are thinking about starting his chemo back up tomorrow. The doctor is not exactly in a rush, but she thinks that we can start a few of his chemo drugs without any negative side effects.
Patrick described Ryan as feeling much better, since he was getting cranky with dad... typical. He didn't want his picture taken, so we ended up with this one (with his eyes closed). Hopefully, he'll be feeling a little better tomorrow, so we can get a smile.. :)
One of the negative consequences of this new 'clot busting' drug is that it is a drip, so he is connected to the pump 24 hours a day. At this point, it's not a big deal, since he's not really feeling like moving anyway. I just hope that the clot dissolves quickly and they can get him on to something different. In addition, they need to get labs every 4 hours until they get the 'right' dose. I worry that he won't have any blood left at this rate, but Patrick assures me that they are not taking too much... (yes, I'm kind of kidding... I know that they don't need too much blood, it's just another thing..) Hopefully, they can get a level that they like quickly and that silly clot can go away.
In addition, Patrick let me know that Ryan's eyelashes are almost all gone. Apparently, the last dose of chemo re-started the 'hair falling out' thing. While he has a lot more hair here than he used to, it's also starting to fall out in patches. We might end up with a 'shave the head' day soon if it keeps going like this. Not that losing your hair is a bad thing (we expect it)... it's just that I think Ryan was happy to start growing hair again, almost like envisioning that this latest trial might come to an end someday soon...
Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts!
