Day 243 - All is going good!

We started Ryan on a new anti-fungal yesterday for the infection they believe is in his lungs.  Amazingly, he felt awesome today!  Patrick said he was up and moving (which is a big change) and laughing and having fun!

Last night, his awesome nurse Alicia drew this 'zombie' on his door.  Ryan has been playing 'Plants vs. Zombies' on his Xbox, and she decided to bring a little of his game into his hospital room... what an awesome nurse! 

I must say, we have been so blessed over the years, not just at Seattle Childrens, but also at Benefis in Great Falls, and UCLA and Rady Childrens in San Diego.  Our nurses have been just amazing.  I'd love to take credit (that Patrick and I are just such amazing parents) but I'm pretty sure it's because Ryan is so wonderful.  We used to joke that we taught him early to flirt with his nurses to get better healthcare, but as he has grown, I think he just appreciates them so much.  Lord knows that Patrick and I appreciate them more than they will ever know! (This is where I'd name each one, but there are just too many... You all know who you are!!)

So, all seems to be going great.  Patrick didn't mention any specific lab numbers, which is a good sign that there are no lingering problems.  Patrick has been able to spend a little more time at home catching up on work, especially knowing that the nurses are taking such good care of Ryan.

    that is amazing--Ryan moving around and feeling great--what a kid. It sounds like you have awesome nurses there--and everywhere else he has been at. AND YES you get better service anywhere when you are pleasant--lesson well learned for Ryan for his entire life ahead of him :(
    and YES you two are fantastic parents, so difficult to be apart when Ryan is going through so much, but you are doing what one of my favorite sayings is "things turn out the best for those that make the best of how things turn out"

Day 500 - wow...

Today - Sept, 2018 So, this is day 500.  500 days since we found out Ryan had Leukemia.  It's been a very strange year and a half, and you all have no idea how much I appreciate your support and your prayers.  For the last 500 days, I have posted an update every evening. Day 490 - A bit smoky

We've mostly recovered from our emotional day yesterday, only to wake up to a very smoky day.  We decided that Ryan could plant his flowers another day, as he probably shouldn't be outside too much on days like today.  So, it was a video game inside kind of day (after our school work was finished, of course!) We got a call from our Great Falls oncologist, who spoke to the Seattle team about Ryan's low magnesium numbers.  They want us to get labs tomorrow, and probably a bolus of magnesium to get him through the weekend.  Depending on his numbers, we might come in next week as well until the TPN can get this right composition of mag (there is a shortage right now). Hopefully, these fires can get under control and the air quality can get back to our beautiful Montana weather, so we can enjoy the outside again... Day 498 - Visit to Ft. Benton

I spent the day in Fort Benton with my mom and her friend... It was nice to spend the day walking around the fort and the museums, and just enjoy the beautiful day. Ryan stayed home with Patrick, so it was kind of a break day for him as well!  He woke up late and didn't have to worry about his school work all day... But, he will make up for the missing work tomorrow... One of the side benefits of homeschooling! His belly has completely closed up, now that he's been without the IV chemo for 2 weeks or so.  It looks great and hopefully will stay that way for a while.  We don't have another spinal tap until October, and I don't think we have the week long IV chemo for another few weeks.  Just enjoying feeling good!
