Day 267 - Hanging with Dad

Patrick headed over and spent a few hours with Ryan.  For some reason, Ryan was really interested in our genealogy last night, so they decided to work on a 'family tree' today.  I think Ryan really enjoyed spending some quality time with daddy, and they had a great time!

His ANC is still high around 2200, so everyone is pretty happy.  We are scheduled for more chemo on Monday, but we're giving him the weekend to chill.

I had a good talk with Patrick and we discussed the idea of trying to get him discharged vs. staying inpatient.  The benefit of being inpatient is that the doctors can be more 'aggressive' in their treatments and we can go a bit faster (always a good thing!!).  They said they usually send you home, since most people become 'stir-crazy' after being inpatient so long.  In this case, we are lucky that Ryan isn't normal.  And, since 'going home' means going to the apartment, it's not much different than being inpatient.  He has his Xbox and his computer (and now his phone).  He doesn't have his siblings (and his mom) and his friends, etc. and he wouldn't be going out and about due to germs, so he's not really missing much by staying inpatient.

So, for the moment, we are okay with staying in the hospital and letting the doctors push his 'plan' a bit faster.  They can take daily labs, and they can give chemo or treatments any day (rather than just the clinic days).  I know it will be hard for him to come back to reality (although anyone who knows Ryan know that he is NEVER in reality by choice!), but I hope that it's what's best for him!

Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts!

  1. that is fantastic that his numbers are up and staying up :) Ryan does have an inquisitive mind, bet they had fun with the family tree and getting to spend some time together, between medical needs and work needs. I can understand why he likes hospitals, they always make him feel better!!! Prayers that will continue. LUV U all
