Day 288 - Ryan is never boring...

Took this right after getting to ICU |
He was playing with a volunteer, when he started having a seizure. His eyes rolled back in his head and he passed out. The nurses rushed in and called a Code Blue. After about a minute (I'm not really sure of the time), they got him breathing again and rushed him up to the ICU.
Patrick was on his way over to the hospital when he got the call from the doctors. They had him stabilized and he was resting in the new room. Patrick arrived and was talking with the neurologist when Ryan had a second seizure. (Convenient, right? Having the neurologist right there was really great) The neurologist confirmed that it was a 'focal seizure', and after about 45 seconds, Ryan took a big breath and rolled over and fell asleep.
So, now we get to figure out what the heck is going on. The doctors said that it was possible that he's just under so much stress from the chemo that his body is shutting down... he has had multiple blood transfusions and his counts are in the toilet. And, he hasn't been sleeping regularly (but that's not exactly new). The doctors did a CT scan, and there is a dark spot in his sinus cavity. So, we are planning on doing a scope tomorrow morning to biopsy the spot. The think it might be an infection, which could also cause seizures. Or, it could be something else... We won't know until we get up there.
They are keeping him in the ICU tonight, and they have added anti-seizure medications to make sure we don't do this again. They also have him on all the monitors, including a nasal cannula that measures CO2 output (to make sure he's breathing).
In all honesty, he's in the safest place he could be right now. I'm kinda freaking out, but at the same time, all the explanations make sense. It kills me that I can't be there. I did get to talk to him for a few minutes. He was groggy and a little annoyed, but sounded okay. Mostly, he was ticked that he didn't have his Xbox in the ICU room... Ahhh, typical teenage kid. He went back to sleep, so I guess he wasn't too upset. The scope is scheduled for early tomorrow morning, so hopefully, we will know more soon.
Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts!!
