Day 289 - Great day!!
The doctors said "Today could not have gone better..." Always a good thing to hear from your doctors!
We had the scope of his sinus cavity this morning, which showed a large mass of ucky stuff (probably just bacteria), so they cleaned that all out and sent it to pathology to make sure it wasn't bad. The MRI was totally clean with no bleeds or anything abnormal in the head. The spinal tap came back negative for meningitis or any other bad bugs. And he did great over night, with no more seizures or problems of any kind.
The doctors are a little puzzled, but they are all under the impression that the seizures were simply his body's reaction to the chemo (kind of like saying, 'Okay, that's enough for now!') His labs look great. They have added padding to his bed, just in case, and they will keep him on monitors for at least a week or two, just to be safe. But, they felt comfortable enough to send him back to his room on the floor (out of the PICU) this afternoon.
He was a bit emotional after the anesthesia this afternoon while we were video chatting, but it's been a long two days and he's exhausted. Patrick turned on Shawn the Sheep, which helped distract him and he fell asleep. The floor nurses were glad to see him back in fine form (I think they have a bit of a soft spot for him... I guess teaching him to flirt with his nurses is paying off?).
Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts (especially your comments on Facebook... I really appreciate all the support!!)

wow, what an exciting and heart pounding couple days, so glad he is doing better. Ann and Greg told us about the sinus problems. I told them it is tough enough on Patrick to be there and see the seizure, but Mom and grandparents are a long way from their boy :( Prayers that everything will be okay now, so glad he was in the hospital when all this happened.
ReplyDeleteand of course being nice and flirting with the nurses is always a good idea :)
