Day 312 - Still struggling with liver numbers

I'll sit up, but I'm not opening my eyes!
Ryan called me early to complain about the pain in his tummy... With all this kid has gone through in the last few months, him complaining is unusual.  I called Patrick, who headed over there.  The doctors did an ultrasound of his abdomen, just to check... Nothing was out of place or blocked or swelled or distended or any of the other bad words.  His liver numbers are still high (his bilirubin is up to 9), so the doctors believe this is called 'liver toxicity', which means that the liver is ticked off (not that we are making it process poisons or anything... duh!).

The oncologist suggested that it might take up to a week or two for his liver to recover, now that we have removed anything that could be upsetting it.  So, he will probably be feeling uncomfortable for a while.  On the good side, they said it's not dangerous and they are still interested in sending us back to the apartment this week.  He might feel better with Patrick around in his own space.  It's not home, but it's the next best thing.  They are giving him some pain meds to help, and he was able to get some rest today.

By the way, if anyone is able to donate blood, there is a blood drive in Raynesford tomorrow (Tuesday) from 1:30-6:30... Ryan has used more than his fair share of blood in the last year (not to mention the tons of blood in the first few years of his life with the transplant and multiple surgeries!)  You would literally be saving a life...

Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts!

  1. so sorry Ryan isn't feeling well, that darn chemo. Still praying that his liver numbers go down to the right level. A child always want to hear his mom's voice when he doesn't feel good :)
I copied your part about the blood drawing and put it on fb!!
    LUV U all
