Day 313 - He never makes it easy, does he?

So, Patrick called me this morning to let me know that Ryan had a fever.  It wasn't obnoxiously high, about 101, but enough that it got some attention.  We started him on some antibiotics, but most of the doctors think it's more of a reaction to the high liver numbers and the chemo, rather than an actual infection.  We'll know more in a few days, but until then, we're being very cautious.

We took him in for a CT scan, with contrast, just to make sure that his GI track is working fine and there are no obvious problems.  Report came back very boring, which is good.  And, amazingly, Patrick said that Ryan looked like he had more energy and was feeling better than he had for the last few days.  Leave it to Ryan to be feeling better once he spikes a fever.

His bilirubin is up to 11, although the rest of his liver enzyme numbers have dropped a bit.  His ANC has also dropped to 0, which pretty much means he has no immune system right now.  We've decided that for the rest of this phase, we might drop all the extra chemo drugs and just focus on one, hoping that his liver might appreciate the break.  We also had a chat with our transplant doctor.  She said that she was okay with his current liver situation, and we were doing fine.  It's always nice to have her opinion, since we are so protective of his liver.

So, even with a low-grade fever, Ryan seems to be feeling better than he has in a few days.  He watched movies and played with Legos (in the last few days, he has barely moved from the bed).  I really hope that he feel even better tomorrow!

Also, a big Thank You to all who came to the Blood Drive in Raynesford today... we made our quota of 23, which is pretty impressive with the weather and calving and everyone with some sort of cold.  We have such an awesome community (although it might be Lois's peanut butter bars)!  And I always love meeting new people!

Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts!

  1. Prayers are still with Ryan and his continued treatments and healing so he can come back to Raynesford and you can have your family at least in the same state and with in 200 miles of you :) Like we were talking yesterday, that hospital is such a fantastic place and those doctors are so intent on getting him as healthy as he can be and not hesitant on doing any test that is needed, as often as they think. My prayers are also with you, know it is tough being so far away from your baby when he is sick, you are such an awesome person that God will give you the strength you need to get through all this, you and yours have been through so much already and I am sure it isn't over!! LUV U all
and thanks for all that donated blood yesterday, actually we had one over the quota as a donor came in with 10 minutes to boost us to 24!!!!! and thanks for the compliment on the pb bars :)
