Day 331 - Finally, biopsy was textbook perfect

Although scheduled for 7:30 this morning, Ryan was finally wheeled into the OR for his lung biopsy around 2 this afternoon.  But, oh was it worth the wait!!

Surgeons said that they couldn't have asked for a better procedure.  They were most worried that Ryan would move while they were poking the needle into his back, causing them to nick an artery or vein or something significant.  But (even though he was completely unconscious) he behaved perfectly.  They were able to get five biopsy samples of the affected area, that was about the size of a dime.  The samples looked really healthy and they should have the results in a day or two.  But, they were most impressed with his lack of bleeding and how well his body reacted.  The doctors were all smiles when the came out of the OR to talk to Patrick, and said everything went amazing.  (Obviously, someone was looking out for us!)

So good, in fact, that not only did they not need the ICU room, they were comfortable enough to send him back to the apartment tonight!  The doctors came in after Ryan got back to this room, and asked if the boys felt comfortable with discharge this evening.  Ryan jumped up and said "I've got to get my clothes on so we can go!"  I guess that was a yes.

Around 7:30 pm tonight, the boys were in the car, on the way to the apartment.  Since Ryan hasn't had food in about a week, he asked for Red Robin fries.  So, after dropping off the stuff from the hospital, they headed out for dinner...

We should know more about the biopsies in a few days, but I believe the plan is to continue the dosage for the maintenance phase on Sunday or Monday.  It will be nice to move forward.

Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts!
