Day 397 - Surgery and chemo went well!

Very, very long day, but all went well!

We got to Great Falls early for Patrick's appointment, for all the good it did... His surgery was delayed by about 5 hours (apparently the previous two cases were complicated, so we were more than willing to wait, hoping the other patients were okay in the end).  Surgery took about 2 hours, and went great.  We had to get 'discharged' from the floor, so we had to wait an extra 2 hours to get discharged.

In the meantime, Ryan and I headed over for his first infusion of chemo here in Great Falls. We went to the Great Falls Clinic Cancer Center, and the staff there was really nice!  Our new oncologist came over to see us and discuss his labs.  As we would expect from Ryan, his ANC was too low (about 850), and his bilirubin was too high (about 4.5).  But, after a discussion with the Seattle oncologist, we decided to go ahead anyway.  Since Ryan looks great, and is feeling good, lets just go with it!

The infusion took about 2-3 hours, and we then headed over for burgers, while we waited for Patrick's surgery.  Ryan was such a champ, watching his movies and playing his games on his phone and my Surface and not complaining a bit as we waited in hospital waiting rooms for hours and hours.

So, we are set for chemo for the next 4 days at the infusion center.  I expect it will take Patrick a few days to recover from his surgery, but all went well!  And, we managed to get some reading and some math work done while we waited!  Go homeschooling!

Thank you all for the continued prayers and good thoughts!

  1. Too bad for the wait on Patrick's surgery, but as long as all went well :) Isn't that Great Falls Clinic Infusion staff awesome. John went there for his infusions to keep him healthy so he didn't get pneumonia every few months. Glad all went well for the "boys" Don't forget to get rest for yourself too, you are not going to be help for them if you are run down!!

Praying for it to continue that way
    LUV U all
